I'm Still on my Self-Confidence Journey

Image

This past weekend, I was reminded that building Self-Confidence is a lifelong journey.

And it wasn’t a gentle reminder. It was like a smack in the face!

A friend of mine from college had a big birthday and I was very excited to be a part of the surprise party and to see the guys I went to college with.

As soon as I walked in the door to prepare for the surprise, I turtled up on a grand scale. I stumbled on my words and said some really odd things.

It was very weird.

And I realized what happened…

When I was in college, I had the Self-Confidence of a shy sloth. I couldn’t get out of my own way and I had a very hard time meeting new people and talking to them.

So when I arrived at this party and met up with all these people that I went to college with, I almost immediately fell into the same trap and mindset I had in college.

I thought, ‘These guys are better than me. They’re more successful than me. What have I done with my life?’

Yeah - it was really weird.

Ultimately, I was able to recover and I had a good time at the party. But I can’t help wondering what my old friends thought when I told them I was a Self-Confidence coach. I certainly wasn’t acting self-confident at all.

On the way home, I worked on my thoughts and ideas. I had an hour and a half to reflect on what happened and what it meant. I was reminded that I’ll never be finished growing.

And that’s a beautiful thing. While I’m not really glad that it happened, I’m kind of glad, because I got that reminder out of it. There are always areas that I can improve upon in my life.

I am looking forward to seeing these guys again, especially now that I know how to prepare myself for the experience. I’ll do so by examining my thoughts so I can create the Self-Confidence I need to be comfortable and to truly have fun with these very important people in my life.
