My Daughter is Driving! 🤯

In three years, I’ll want to get my daughter a car. She’s 13 now. I have three years…

I think about my future in three year periods.

A lot will happen in three years, but at the same time, in the grand scheme of things, not all that much will change in that time span.

The biggest thing will be my daughter behind the wheel of a car.

In order to get her a wheel to be behind, there are a lot of things I need to do.

✅ I have to figure out the finances.

✅ I have to anticipate her maturity level and her ability to help pay for it. (I will say that in a lot of ways, she is WAY more mature than me 🤪).

✅ I want to be living in a more stable situation.

✅ I want to maintain and improve upon my thriving life coaching business.

In order to do all of these things, I have to create a roadmap. Otherwise, I’ll get to 2026 and I’ll be pulling my hair out trying to catch up.

My daughter will have continued to mature, my sons will be eating a lot more than they are now. Clothes will be more important, hanging out with friends will be a financial investment on my part (and theirs).

I have to anticipate things. In order to do that, I want to “backwards plan.”

😬2026 - car, observe, enjoy and try not to panic

🎈2025 - verify maturity level, finalize finances, wrangle school activities, observe and enjoy

🙌 2024 - discuss plans with co-parent, observe and enjoy

🎉 2023 - observe and enjoy

This is obviously a very rudimentary plan, but hopefully you get the point.

If you’ve never done it, backwards planning can be intimidating. It can also be freeing.

It’s freeing because you can work with the anticipation. I’ve been anticipating this since my daughter was a baby. Driving, along with college, grad school, family, grandkids. All of it.

When I backwards plan, especially in periods of three, it’s much easier to deal with.

2026 will be an amazing year. I can tell you that from the 2023 lens. And that feels good.
