Where is the Love?

Where is the Love?

You had it before, but now it’s gone.

When you started in your career - whether it was 25 years ago or 5 years ago, you were excited. You were in love. Something inside you said, “Yes - that’s what I have been called to do.”

Maybe it’s not quite that romantic, but you get the picture.

The point is that you’re no longer feeling it with your job.

You’re not alone. Did you know that…

🛑 80% of workers are not interested or are no longer interested in their profession.

🛑 33% of workers have reached a dead end in their jobs.

🛑 21% of workers WISH to change their careers.

I want to focus on the word wish.

To be clear - I’m not going to tell you to just stop wishing and change your career already.

It’s not that simple.

BUT, if you’re at a place in life where you’re wishing, it might be time to start looking around for something - even just to see what else is out there.

I have found that people stay in wish mode because they have no idea what other possibilities are waiting for them on the other side. They don’t know where to look, but they also have not given themselves permission to look.

They’ve reached the dead end, they’re not interested and they’re wishing, but that’s all they're doing.

Here’s the thing…

Those statistics - they’re published for a reason. The idea with statistics is that we create a shift in the numbers - we improve upon their current outlook. (Keep your cynicism to yourself here…)

Theoretically, statistics are published so that in the future (in the next year, 5 years, 10 years, whenever) we’ll be able to say, “see - you were aware that you were unhappy so now you’ve changed things and the number has gone from 80% to 68%.” (See above about your cynicism…).

The first step in creating a shift in the statistics is to take action.

And again, I’m not talking about you quitting your job and then asking me what to do next. Please DO NOT do that.

But what I will ask you to do, is to do a little research into what else is out there.

Here’s what some of my clients have done by taking that first step:

✅ Kyle moved from one engineering firm where he was under-appreciated to another firm where he feels seen and valued as a member of the team.

✅ Morgan left teaching, pieced together a solid income through side-hustles, and is working toward understanding what the next phase of life looks like.

✅ John left a partnership under difficult circumstances to create an entirely new role in product development and engineering.

✅ Max is currently creating an exit plan to move in a new direction in the same industry.

Each of these “moves” was sparked by the idea that it was possible to do something more rewarding, more engaging, more fulfilling as a career.

So - are you willing to take a look at other possibilities? Is there something else out there that you don’t know about?

Go out there and find out! You’ve got nothing to lose, right!

If you find yourself wishing for a change in your professional (or personal) life, it might be time to fully assess where you are and where you want to be.

Going to the next level from just wishing might seem like reincarnation! Reinvigorated with drive, new challenges & a joyous horizon! Sometimes a new setting & fresh faces remind a person why they first chose their career. Other times one might reflect on “what if” questions; what If I had followed a passion, or natural talent rather than a safe, conventional profession. Sometimes it’s necessary to take a step back in order to move forward.

The Power of Intention

This blog is a VIDEO! 👉 Intentional thoughts lead to intentional actions. That's the only way to be successful. 👍 Well, I guess that's not totally true. Without thinking intentionally you might happen upon success. 🤷‍♂️ Intentional thinking ⚡ supercharges ⚡ your actions so you get the EXACT results you want QUICKER! What could be better??? Here are three ways to act intentionally if you’re mind is starting to wander toward a new era in your career: Once you have established yourself in your new career or position, things might start to settle in and you might feel more capable of balance in your life. You might feel like you can commit your time and energy to your family and friends in addition to your work. It’s freeing because you can work with the anticipation. I’ve been anticipating this since my daughter was a baby. Driving, along with college, grad school, family, grandkids. All of it.
